Development News From Southwest Indiana
Shoe Carnival Breaks Ground on New Headquarters
For help in choosing the location for a new distribution center on Cross Pointe Blvd. in Evansville, the company turned to a national logistics firm. (SDI, the national logistics firm contacted Vision-e for information for an un-named distribution center client considering a location in southwest Indiana.) After considering a number of factors, including the quality of the labor force, transportaion costs and economic stability, the firm came back with the "optimal location" for a new distribution center - within a 30-mile radius of Evansville. (Vision-e worked with the consultant for three months before receiving a call from a Shoe Carnival executive indentifying his company as the client of the logistics firm.)
Shoe Carnival's investment in the new 60,000 square foot corporate office and 410,000 square foot distribution center will total $40 million. The two new facilities will result in 120 new jobs.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. offered training grants of up to $20,000, $200,000 in infrastructure improvements and about $2 million in tax credits. Vanderburgh County is providing a 10-year tax phase-in on real and personal property.
