Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) is partnering with regional colleges and universities to develop a dramatically expanded student nursing program.
By expanding their Simulation Labs (SIM Lab) facilities, GSH will allow for increased partnerships with eligible regional schools of nursing including, but not limited to, Vincennes University (VU), Ivy Tech, University of Southern Indiana (USI), IU Bloomington, Illinois Eastern Community College (IECC), and Western Governors University (WGU) by providing additional necessary clinical sites for nursing students, which are currently very limited in the region.
Improved Simulation Labs
The use of simulation is an innovative teaching strategy that has proven to be valuable in nursing education. Simulation labs (SIM Lab) provide a safe alternative learning space where students learn and can be observed. SIM Lab equipment, including mannequins, is designed to replicate real-world medical conditions.
SIM labs provide a place to practice nursing skills and bedside manner in a controlled environment. This allows for improving critical thinking without any risk to a patient and in turn builds confidence while also improving problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and communication skills.
