Dubois Strong, in partnership with The Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District and Vincennes University Jasper, hosted the 2022 Southwest Indiana Agriculture Economic Summit at Vincennes University Jasper.

The Ag Summit is geared towards updating local producers, agriculture businesses, and financial institutions on the latest in economic programs and opportunities in the county.

This year’s agenda included morning networking and coffee with opening remarks by Ed Cole, Dubois Strong President. Scott Wagner with Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) kicked off the speakers with a presentation on energy improvements to farm buildings.

Danny Cross with Precision Lighting Systems spoke on LED lighting systems within agriculture. Vincennes University Jasper Dean Christian Blome presented on the agriculture classes offered at the university, and Melissa Ruschau with Dubois County Soil & Water Conservation District updated attendees on the VUJ Land Stewardship Initiative.

Hans Schmitz, the Lead Conservation Cropping Systems Agronomist for the state of Indiana, was the final presenter and spoke about carbon credits and soil resiliency.

The event ended with networking and lunch.

The next Southwest Indiana Agriculture Economic Summit will be held in November 2023.
